Deer Dummies...

Are white tailed deer suicidal?
The numbers of deer killed on the roadways and dying later off road are staggering.
It always amazes me how many times they will look right at an oncoming car and then leap right in front of that car.
Daytime or nighttime, it makes no difference.
At our house, we have hit a ridiculous number of them.
Tonight we added to that number by one.
Now, where did I put that body shop number again?......

Drive with more care and attention. There are deer around me but I've never hit anything or indeed, seen such an event. If you see that a deer is standing still near the side of the road looking at your approach, then you should slow down to prepare for possible events.
Deer don't know what you are, they just figure you're a charing predator and just try to stay unnoticed. When it seems they have been seen and all is almost lost, they try to get out of your way.
They taste good though.
I once got stuck driving slowly behind a large male elk that was trotting down the road from Mt. Spokane. Pretty intimidating animal. I kept my distance but in my little Miata that thing could have easily sat on my car and broken it like a toy. Had it jumped out in front of my car, it would probably have won the contest.
@Lovegrove - far easier said than done....I've had them jump right into the side of my car in the fog, and the vegetation is so close to the roadways here in the very rural mts that warning is measured in a second or two. Just the other day, in the middle of the day, one jumped out from behind a house and raced across the road ....they are like rodents around here....it gets to the point where the insurance company just asks if you have hair or guts on the vehicle, they don't even look anymore.....
@Darterius - Hi there, good to see you again....yep, I'd have given that elk a wide berth. They are going to be our next menace...they've migrated to within 30 miles of where I live. You think of them being "just a little bigger than a deer" but in truth, they are horse size. Remind me sometime to tell you about my experience with a bull....LOL
I had an interesting experience with a sheep once, but I was a growing farm lad.
@Lovegrove - You are sooooooooooo bad!
