  • Photo observations

Yesterday, a private screening and rave party got out of hand near the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.  Young people arrived in mass, disrupted traffic, allegedly set fire to a police car and in general, created mayhem.

Here is the MSNBC photo of their behavior:

It's been said that a picture is worth a thousand words.  I'd like to spend a few of my thousand on this photo.

    1. Young man trying to get young woman to get off the police car:  Good for you.  Common sense when it was in short supply.

    2. Dude leaping onto the police car.  Was this on your bucket list?  Did you think someone would be impressed with the height of your leap?

(In order to keep this easy to read, I'll be reposting the picture from time to time....)

    3. Young bearded man dressed in black pants and grey shirt.  Nice dance move.  Do you Salsa as well?

    4. Young man, face obscured by camera, dresses in white t and blue shorts, holding your business.  Dude, it's attached, you can let go now!

    5. Man in black on stairs to the theatre with camera.  Why do I think you had a hand in staging this?

    6. Left side, hand holding camera.  Oh yeah, make sure this hits YouTube, ok?

    7. Bald headed guy on steps.  What? you never saw a mini riot before?

    8.  Guy in background pointing.  Are you pointing out the leaper's bad behavior? height of leap? what?

    9. Young Asian appearing lady with short skirt and off the shoulder top.  What is so doggone funny?

    10. Dude in the 'fro, far side of the police car, mostly blocked by the cop lights.  You appear to be the only one headed in the right direction from this mess.

See?  This was fun....I think I might try this again.  Maybe soon.....

  • sometimes i wonder about people. when there were riots when Vancouver didn't win the stanley cup there was a picture then went viral (among so many) of a couple laying on the ground and seemed to be kissing in the light off the fires and violence in the background. supposedly he was shielding her from the police and then had been forced down on the ground as the police advanced against the protesters. with the age of social media and high resolution pictures...no one is safe. my mom and dad saw on NBC i believe that facebook and other social media sites have the right to tag pictures of you whereever they find them and keep them in a database...or just in general. and therefor the cops and other people searching for people have access to so many pictures. this goes against the privacy act i think that we have here in Canada but when people are invovled in something that crosses borders and is not government contained...i don't know whether a certain government even has a right to make a big deal about it... mean if the cops or someone IN canada make use of it...i get that, but worldwide you can't begin to say things like that. they also forbid people from declaring election coverage on their phones/facebook pages/twitter etc...and my thinking was, who is going to go after those people that do...i'm sure the cops have other things on their hands that they'd like to be pursuing.

all of that to say...good reading into the picture...and i'd like to see you do it another time.

  • Mob mentality freaks me out. My inclination, if I were caught up in a mob, would be to get myself OUT, in any way that I could. Seems other peoples' inclination is to set cars on fire. What? Did you not go to school? Do you not have parents? How is this ok in anyone's book, under any circumstances?

    Great post!

  • @mytoesareblue - I often have these discussions with my students that what they post can be found later and used against them. They don't listen. I cannot imagine 1. being part of that mess and 2. knowing that people who know me will probably see the pictures. I wonder how many of them will be fired when their employers see this?

@DMMeyer - I'm with you.  I cannot fathom thinking this would be a good idea.  Not ever.

  • i agree with DMMeyer...especially the part 'How is this okay in anyone's books?'...there is so much about the generation that is coming after me that makes my heart sad and afraid. the total denial of absolute truth and the abhorance of any form of rule or consequence leaves me thinking...that the anarchy some desire is not far from the truth...but they really have no deep thought about what that anarchy looks like when its for more then a day and not just part of the mob mentality. i also agree with DMMeyer that if i happend to b in that situation i would desperately find way way to GET OUT....
